Sarah, Duchess of York, is showing her support for Princess Kate following the announcement of Kate’s cancer diagnosis.
“All my thoughts and prayers are with the Princess of Wales as she starts her treatment,” Sarah wrote in a statement shared to Instagram today. “I know she will be surrounded by the love of her family and everyone is praying for the best outcome.”
She continued, “As someone who has faced their own battles with cancer in recent months, I am full of admiration for the way she has spoken publicly about her diagnosis and know it will do a tremendous amount of good to raise awareness. I hope she will now be given the time, space and privacy to heal.”
The duchess has previously spoken candidly about her own private struggles with cancer, having been treated for breast last summer and most recently diagnosed with skin cancer.
In January, she reflected on the emotional journey in an Instagram post, revealing that she “underwent a mastectomy and reconstructive surgery” to treat her breast cancer.
“Naturally another cancer diagnosis has been a shock, but I’m in good spirits and grateful for the many messages of love and support,” she wrote at the time. “I believe my experience underlines the importance of checking the size, shape, color, and texture and emergence of new moles that can be a sign of melanoma and urge anyone who is reading this to be diligent.”
Kate personally announced her cancer diagnosis in a video shared to Kensington Palace’s social media accounts last Friday. She revealed that doctors had discovered the presence of cancer in tests following an abdominal surgery she underwent in January.
“This of course came as a huge shock, and William and I have been doing everything we can to process and manage this privately for the sake of our young family,” the royal said. “As you can imagine, this has taken time. It has taken me time to recover from major surgery in order to start my treatment. But most importantly, it has taken us time to explain everything to George, Charlotte, and Louis in a way that is appropriate for them, and to reassure them that I’m going to be okay. As I’ve said to them, I am well, and getting stronger every day by focusing on the things that will help me heal, in my mind, body, and spirits.”
Shortly after the news went public, a palace insider told Bazaar that Kate “is in good spirits and is focused on making a full recovery.” Meanwhile, William “will continue to balance supporting his wife and family and maintaining his official duties as he has done since the start of the year.”
